Getting Summer Started

It's been close to two months since I last blogged - 7 weeks I think it was... Well, not that I haven't wanted to blog, but as the saying goes "The hurrier I go, the behinder I get." Since the half-marathon in early May we have been busy as can be with various summer activities - trips, weddings, sports, and then every other weekend Laura is working and that doesn't help with getting caught up with anything.

We made a trip to Colby, Kansas to find the world's oldest geocache over Memorial Day weekend. That was a trip of 800 miles with lots of geocaches and my first time visiting the southwest corner of Nebraska and northwest Kansas. We camped two nights, once at Lake Ogallala and the next at Swanson Reservoir outside Trenton, NE. We had some storms the second night, but nothing too bad considering the rest of Nebraska was practically in every storm warning possible, yet we were only experiencing some strong winds - but we could still see the night sky!

This past weekend we went to the Cornhusker State Games in Lincoln and I played in Ultimate Frisbee competition with a team from Kearney. It was the first year for the sport and overall I think it was a real success for both the sport to get some publicity (especially in Nebraska) and for Kearney to get a team together and represent a community other than Omaha or Lincoln (where the rest of the teams were from). We were by no means amazing, but I was impressed with the way a large number of novice players were able to listen to some of my instructions and make some competition for the more experienced teams. We were one point short of beating the second place team on the first day and that was an excellent game! We played it at 2:00 in the afternoon on Saturday - after playing 3 games before - and it was nearly 100ยบ F as well! Overall, we came home with a 4th place finish and I think that pleased everyone to have a respectable finish - I know I was impressed.

As far as running goes, I haven't done much running the past two weeks. Resting up for Cornhusker Games and then recovering from them has slowed me down some, but hopefully after the 4th of July I can get started once again. I am down to 194 pounds now and a little more running will get me to the 190 mark soon! Sunday evening, after getting back from Cornhusker, I weighed in at 189 - and that was after eating 4 roast beef sandwiches from Arby's and a few cans of pop! Most of the weight was from dehydration, but I think I can get back to that weight by the end of summer if I keep working hard.

Here's the team picture from the weekend at Cornhusker State Games.
I will try to do a better job of blogging this summer, but I am making no promises. The year is going by too fast and I can hardly find enough time to relax as it is... Oh, did I mention there will be a baby showing up sometime in late September?

Until again
