Winning Summer

Do you ever get in a slump where nothing goes your way? Everything seems to go the complete opposite of what you want and everything seems wrong... Not especially fun.?.. Well it's summer's like the one we're having that make up for those low times. When I say 'we' I am speaking of Laura, Emryk, and myself - we have been on a winning streak lately and it's quite nice.

The first 'win' came back in mid-May when we attended the Nebraska Outdoor Expo at Fort Kearny. We entered Emryk into a drawing to receive a half-price Lifetime Hunt/Fish Permit and his name was drawn, so he technically got us started this summer.My winning has been in the form of trivia contests on the radio and 'name that tune' which I can usually do within the first few notes. Usually I am just winning a free lunch from various restaurants, occasionally I win larger prize packages and get some odds and ends too.

Laura has the biggest prize package of the summer though. She won a trip for two (that's me included!) to Las Vegas. The local AM radio station had a big contest and she was the lucky winner. It's a 4 day/3 night trip, airfare, luxury hotel, and pretty much any show we want to go see while we are in Vegas! It will be fun to go back to Vegas - and I have never flown a commercial flight, so it will be a new experience for me as well. Plus, I've never been to Vegas in the winter, so it should be a totally new experience all around.I don't know what the rest of the summer has in store for us, but so far it as been great! We are less than two months away from the arrival of baby #2 so hopefully things continue like they have!
