Goodbye July

Can it be? Is July really gone already? Well, not officially for another hour and a half, but it might as well be gone. Emryk will be three weeks old on Saturday and boy has time gone fast! Well, in some ways. He has really developed over the past week, he controls his head much better and he is beginning to show facial expressions now - not always purposefully mind you.

However, time seems to creep by on those long nights when he won't sleep, or maybe it's just that Laura and I aren't sleeping. Either way, some nights we wonder if the sun will ever rise!

I wish I had more to blog about right now. In fact, I could ramble about lots of miscellaneous things at the moment, but it's hard to type with one hand trying to feed my face while the other hand is trying to rock a baby slowly to sleep. Multi-tasking has become standard practice around here!

Until again

Emryk

Well, if you haven't heard by now then you have been living under a rock. Laura finally popped! Last Saturday at 7:46 pm Emryk Deo arrived. The story goes something like this...

Friday afternoon I left work at 5:00, the usual time. I came home and we had supper, sat around the house and enjoyed the evening. I started working on a new geocache (actually an Earthcache) around 8:00. Laura wasn't feeling real well so she went to bed around 11:30 while I continued to work away at the computer. I finally finished our cache a few minutes after 1:00 a.m. on Saturday morning. I climbed into bed at 1:14 and just settled in for a good nights rest - hoping to sleep in and then have a lazy weekend... but it wasn't to be. Nine minutes after I climbed into bed, at 1:23 Laura woke up and told me her water had broke!

My first thought was "oh man, there goes my night of sleep." Laura called the clinic and they informed her we should probably head to the hospital. So, we got dressed and decided to eat a bowl of cereal before we ran out the door. While we were eatting our 'breakfast' I saw our library books sitting on the table and I realized those would be due at closing on Saturday, so we made a detour past the library dropbox before we went to the hospital.

We checked in to the hospital around 2:30 and soon were on our way to labor and delivery. My cousin Bri works in the labor and delivery ward and she was on duty Saturday night. I think she had been informed we were on our way to the hospital and was awaiting our arrival. She got us situated into our room and we began the wait... Things were going pretty slow, but advancing as needed so we let things take their time. Bri's shift ended at 6:00 a.m. - which seemed like a blink of an eye - and she joked as she was leaving that we needed to wait until she came back at 6:00 p.m. to have the baby so she could be there to help. Well, sure enough, it took most of the day for things to finally work themselves out and at 6:20 that evening, Bri was back helping us out and we began the delivery.

Things went pretty well overall. With the exception of the baby getting 'stuck' for a short while, Laura did well. Emerk was born at 7:46 p.m. - he weighed in at 7 pounds 12 oz and was 21 inches long. We stayed in the hospital until Monday evening and came home to REALLY begin the fun! So far things have been great. Emryk is really strong, he can hold his head up and sees very well. He recognizes both of us by voice and sight - he is a quick learner, but what can you expect when you look at his parents!

Until again
